"Those who howl Anthony’s victimhood, excusing his crime, are sentencing him to something far worse than the imprisonment awaiting him; they’re condemning him to cynicism and powerlessness, a place of such darkness that will make true rehabilitation and the possibility of redemption impossible."

This! Such a powerful, succinct, and true statement. Thank you for this framing.

Once again, Jamie you have written an intelligent piece that goes right to the heart of the matter - rather than getting caught up in the fray.

Our society has become so divided - and focused on the division - rather than the root of the problem - which is being caused by the breakdown of important values, such as instilling humanity in our younger generations, and taking responsibility for one’s actions. It’s easier to play the victim.

And that is pervasive through all segments of our society, not just in people of color.

I hope people who read this are able to “put down their swords” and open themselves up to the ideals you present.
