AEA, in my experience, has stepped in to keep touring productions in the union, and has created and developed small theatre codes and contracts that keep a certain number of jobs in the union. My comment about collaboration with producers to develop new audiences is a wish more than an expectation. As for the politics--I understand that unions do endorse candidates etc.. my comment is more about the new PAC and a more than usual political focus.
