A week from now will mark my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY on Substack!
I published my first essay on March 2, 2023, and I thank all of my subscribers for supporting my efforts!
You may or may not know this, but I am an award-winning screenwriter!! My pilot screenplay, “Wisenheimer,” has won numerous accolades, including First Place Golden Winner at the New York International Screenplay Awards in 2022.
The series—about a Gen X gay porn actor, reunited with his estranged sister, a feisty J.A.P, to care for their world class violinist mother who has Alzheimer’s—is an edgy, irreverent dramedy in the spirit of shows like “Dead To Me” and “Fleabag.”
“Wisenheimer” features lead characters of color…delightful characters from amongst the underrepresented in the LGBTQ+ community; pokes fun at the extreme Right and Left in America; and tackles themes of sexual abuse, addiction, transgender identity and sex positivity—AND it’s a comedy!!
HOWEVER—IT WAS WRITTEN BY ME:
—a perceived-to-be-white, “cisgender” male 50-something—which means I can’t get this universally praised, award-winning script in front of the folks who might be inspired to move it toward production, because…um…diversity and inclusion….?
So. I’ve decided to publish the award-winning “Wisenheimer” pilot screenplay in weekly installments starting SAT FEB. 24, in the serial style of Charles Dickens or of Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City!” I invite you to take the ride with my leading characters, Ezra and Naomi, as their stories play out here at The Cornfield!!
NOTE: this content will only be available to paid subscribers! Just Five Bucks a Month? C’mon, such a deal.
You can view the video pitch deck for “Wisenheimer” here. And, in case you haven’t read a screenplay before…and need a brief primer on basic screenplay stuff for easier reading, this is helpful.
I’m excited to share this wild (and I do mean WILD) ride with you! And, if folks love the pilot—-I’ve written the entire first season of six episodes. Buckle up for the hilarious and broken wisecrackers of “Wisenheimer!”
You ROCK! This is a wonderful idea to get this great series out there. YES!!
Yes! I recall loving the screenplay when I read it. The new DEI world baffles me. That an award-winning gay screenplay writer can't get produced is proof enough of the lunacy of it all.
