Congrats on your 80th post and reaching 59. We are near contemporaries as I reach 60 earlier this year.
Yes there is a certain shared heritage which I suspect is being lost. People do need to get back to the sense of being American first, rather than a hyphen something American. Schoolhouse Rock was something else.
Have you listened to the Rest is History podcast as they are currently doing a 1968 US election series (Eugene McCarthy was the subject of Dominic Sandbrook's Phd). It is interesting to listen to as they do specialize in social history and it is easy to forget the full panoply of what was happening. I had quite forgotten that Sirhan Sirhan (a Palestinian Christian) shot RFK because he was upset about 1967 Israel-Arab war and RFK's pro-Israeli stance, for example.
Happy (belated) Birthday 🎉🎂
I am also an older Gen-Xer. I am 58 (and a half 😝). I can totally relate to this post. Thank you!
Well said! This fellow Xer wishes you a vivid and meaningful 6th decade. Thanks for all you've shared.
Beautiful 💞🇺🇸
